“Enjoyable Niche Technologies Evening” for Haskell and more?

Posted on July[²⁰26], Sunday 12.July[²⁰26], Sunday 12. By Shrimple No Comments on “Enjoyable Niche Technologies Evening” for Haskell and more?

A friend has referred me to appplying for an SRE position with Haskell. I went through two interview phases. Two days ago, I received a rejection email. I’m a mid Java dev of a few years experience.

We have a guest right now. A student of mathematics.
He brings up liking Haskell — unprompted.

Java gets brought up in a conversation.

He says he needs to learn Java, because as he looks at the job postings
— it’s ever a lot of Java.

I describe the ecosystem to him; I mention the historical perspective
of how Java EE came to be.

But isn’t that going to be a similar story? The reason I was just rejected: no experience with Haskell in production.

The friend tells me enough perseverance in applying could get me a Haskell job provided Haskell is what I love working with.

I see the Scala ecosystem is alive and well; I see Akka/Pekko implement some amazing stuff. Why have I subconsciously believed drama-makers of the Scala ecosystem appearing on my social media feed and thought Scala was dying out? Scala is no Haskell but maybe such perseverance required could have been lesser than for Haskell, and that would be a good path.

Do I need to organize
an Enjoyable Niche Technologies Evening,
a Wieczór Innowacyjnych Alternatywnych Technologii Rozwojowych,
a Wieczór Opieki nad Rozwojem Ekscentrycznych Kandydatów,
an Evening of Candidate Hope for Eccentric Objectives?

What else could that — such event — encompass, outside of functional programming? And, perhaps, solely for the unbelievability of it: why are we in pretty much the very same place as we were ten years ago, except for Rust happening, and just some cool new language features here and there?
